CAMP ARMENIA 2009

For the last three years 136 needy children between the ages 12-15 had the opportunity to attend the Camp and spend part of their summer vacations there. In addition to providing the children a summer filled with joy and learning, the camp focuses on improving their health through nutritious meals.

The cooperation with Armenia started in 2005, when one of the members of Rotaract Club of Gyumri – Aram Tiraturyan – visited Camp Copenhagen organized by Kgs. Lyngby Rotary Club. First project that was organized after his visit was a „Teddy Bear“ project, where Virum Rotary Club fundraised and sent 1000 Teddy Bears to Armenia, which Rotaract Club of Gyumri distributed to the orphanages and kindergartens of Gyumri. Starting from 2006 Rotaract Club of Gyumri initiated and implemented summer camps for children, the funding of which they received from different Danish Rotary Clubs.

Rotaract Club of Gyumri set a target to take 70 needy children to the Camp in 2009. But the actual number of the children visiting the Camp greately depend on the funding we will receive from different Rotary Clubs.

Hanne Ostergaard from Lillerod Rotary Club visited Camp Armenia in 2007, Ejvind and Gerda Christensen from Kgs. Lyngby Rotary Club visited Camp Armenia in 2008. We encourage each of the sponsoring Rotary Club to send a representative to our Summer Camp 2009 as it will not only be a possibility to monitor the project, but also a unique opportunity to visit Armenia and discover the special charm of an ancient and mountainious country.  

30 children in 2006, 70 children in 2007, 36 children in 2008, ?? children in 2009! The number of children participating in the Camp in 2009 depends on the funding we receive from different Rotary Clubs. Your Club can be one of the sponsors to support Summer Camp 2009 in Armenia!
